Personal Info!
Personality: Beta is a very kind, caring, compassionate individual, who unfortunately has zero self-esteem. He'd do anything for anyone else, even a stranger, but doesn't consider himself a priority. He's gone through most of his life suffering through bouts of depression, ranging anywhere from severe to mild, but there are precious few memories he has of actually being happy. He functions well enough in normal society, despite being a little socially inept and awkward when first meeting someone. The longer he's around someone the more comfortable he feels, but he never takes compliments very well, either ignoring them or disputing them.
Past: Beta was created by an organization called Sanctuary, that injected embryos with a form of liquid maracite to give them magical abilities. The experiment was conducted in hopes of creating a serum from the blood of the infants, that when injected in adults, wouldn't cause the same muscular and skeletal deterioration that occurred in the first adults that were exposed to the liquid maracite. Only four of the fifty embryos survived the process, Beta being the second born of the four. Even though they were able to create a safer version of the formula that gave adults magical abilities, the original members of Sanctuary continued to suffer and slowly deteriorate. Many thought they were going to die, and several actually did. Beta was the first to develop his powers at the age of six, after a distraught and furious Portal tried to beat them into him. The only person Portal had ever loved died in his arms, and in a fit of rage Portal dragged Beta into a locked room and proceeded to torture him until he used his power to protect himself. Even though the kougra doesn't remember the incident, it's had a lasting effect on his psyche. Portal doesn't even try to make excuses for his actions; he knows what he did was sinful and that he can never make it up to Beta.
Plus: Beta can phase himself and others through objects and walls.
Minus: He has no power without his gold necklace. If he were to somehow lose or drop it in the middle of moving through a wall, the wall's molecules would rematerialize and kill him. The maximum weight he's been able to phase is 500 pounds, equivalent to three or four people.
