Neopians from all around the globe have gathered today in the haunted woods to take part in the annual celebration event for all things spooky and horrifying. Up in the sky in a bat decorated air-balloon Eric resides, slowly circling over the area.

"Is everybody ready for the spookiest, most horrifying halloween celebration of all time!"
Eric spoke through a large microphone that echo'd all over the woods, and decided it would be fun to add in an evil laughter "HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

"Well then you're at the right place, because on this very night, the haunted woods are the most dangerous, most frightening, and most haunted of ALL other nights! Can you feel the cold moist damp all around you, clouding your senses, blocking your sight. That's to make you all easier to HUNT! For there are many evil beings lurking in the shadows, waiting for the best moment to strike HAHAHAHA"

Naturally, Eric's words are but theatrics and no neopets are in actual danger.

"There are many events to partake in, but be warned... None of them, are safe. I would avoid all of them if you value your life! The braintree and esophagor are restless and impossible to deal with... And they say that any mask purchased in the mask shop today will melt to your face and never come off! Any petpet purchased this very night will not rest until they've destroyed all your furniture.. At the graveyard the dead rise from the ground! And those who enter the gypsy-camp are told truly happened tales of horror. The food stalls you find may look ominous, but they're not nearly as frightening in appearance as the effects the food has on you. It is said, that any food you buy and eat today, will cause you to DIE three days later!"

"And whatever you do, do NOT visit the deserted fairground! Because noone will leave the carnival of terror alive! And the other carnaval events will not allow you to stop until you win something, which you never will HAHAHAHA! So don't be a fool and go home, or today will be your last day in Neopia! Though if you're so keen on losing your life, by all means stay. The quickest way to end it all is by entering Castle Nox, for he is not eager to have his house swarmed with neopians on this day, and filled his rooms and hallways with dangerous traps and spells!"

"And for those who enter Neovia, do not let Bart's kindness fool you, rumor has it he drowns his customers... And as you already know, everything in that town was once cursed, who is to say the same thing won't happen again this very night? HAHAHAHA"

Every hour Eric would float in his airballoon over the haunted woods to repeat the message. Every neopet around was dressed up, some enjoying the spooky festivities, some scared out of their minds and regretted coming here.

In the middle of the crowd partaking in the event, B, Pawkeyt and Azelf were all caught up in excitement of the festivities, except for their big sister Sweet who was watching over them the whole time they were there, uninterested. B was wearing his Dr. Sloth costume, Pawkeyt was in his pirate outfit and Azelf... well as usual, his cloak. As for Sweet however... she's already invisible. The only thing she has is a wagon full of candy.

"I want to go home now." Sweet groaned. "These 'festivities' happen every year. Nothing's new."

"What are you talking about?" B exclaimed, talking to his sister. He paused, overhearing Eric's message through the microphone. "You here that?" The baby Kacheek pointed at the airballoon. "This is gonna the best Halloween celebration ever! We'll have loads of fun! I just know it!"

"Yeah!" Pawkeyt seconded the notion, while eating a lollipop. "And look at all this candy we got from trick-or-treating!"

"Not to mention... maybe something epic might happen... like, like... we could meet a Werelupe or we unlock a curse or something!" the Kacheek giggled in excitement. "Who knows?!"

"Uhh... I-I don't know about that..." Azelf hid his face under his cloak.

"Fine, we'll stay." Sweet told them sternly. "But I'm keeping an eye on all of you."

Despite being invisible, the boys understand perfectly clearly not to ignore her presence. She can just sneak up on them anytime. The three doesn't usually separate from one another once their together, which makes it easier for Sweet. Some Neopians got scared off thinking how the wagon was pulling itself while they were walking along.

I just know something cool will happen! B thought to himself.

Slowly a dark figure creeped up on the group. Approaching cautiously it glided across the area until it stopped and slowly rose behind B.

"Boo!" Lora cried out from behind B in a very dark purple vampire costume.

[Maddie]

Dude squinted at the balloon in the sky and adjusted his glasses. "It's so dark... Hey, did either of you hear the last part of that young fellow's speech?" The tall disco kacheek turned his attention to his two younger siblings, who were also trying to focus on what Eric was saying.

Star had a slightly sour look on her face. "He warned against entering Neovia. But that goes without saying, doesn't it?"

"Oh yes, let's not talk about Greed when we're trying to enjoy ourselves," Dude laughed forcefully with a spiteful edge.

"I hope the large influx of visitors are agitating him," Star continued despite Dude's urge to stop. The disco kacheek opened his mouth to scold her, but his thinking was redirected to his little brother.

"Guys, I'm really scared right now," Cici muttered under his breathe, clinging to Dude's side tightly.

Dude and Star were quick to comfort Cici. "Oh, were not REALLY in any danger," insisted Star. "If anything spooky happens, I'll protect you," asserted Dude. Cici tried to smile in appreciation of their kind words, but it didn't quite work. He continued clinging to Dude with a nervous look.

"So, what should we do first?" Star asked, rubbing her hands together eagerly.

"I was thinking we should visit the Deserted Fairgrounds first," Dude suggested. "It's probably more frustrating than scary. It's better to start off mild, and then visit the scarier locations as the night progresses. Does that sound good?"

Star was quick to agree, nodding furiously with a wide grin. Cici remained silent, but otherwise had no objections. The three began to walk.

[Blue]

With a startled look on his face, B turned around. Apparently he wasn't all that scared, and confronted the mysterious stranger calmly as if it was a common thing for him.

"Oh hey!" the baby Kacheek greeted, waving at the fellow Neopian who tried to surprise him. "Say, are you a real vampire?!" he asked excitedly and leaped like a little fanboy.

A slap is heard out of nowhere while Pawkeyt faced the direction where the sound came from. Seems that the moment made Sweet facepalm in frustration. 

"Ugh, no B, it's only a costume." Sweet pointed out.

Azelf--fidgetting his hands as the rest of them began having a conversation--noticed that they had been standing near the entrance to the Deserted Fairgrounds. He gazed at the Castle of Eliv Thade with much fear in his eyes, to the point that he got mesmerized by the interior just standing proudly there. Lightning flashed around the castle, making it more terrifying.

Pawkeyt was about to pat him on the shoulder. "Uh, bro?" When he did, the faerie Shoyru flew away in shock, leaving the speckled Kiko confused. 

The Shoyru kept dashing away until suddenly, he crashes onto someone. "Pff--Oh no! Oh no!" Azelf fixed his cloak, embarrassed. "I'm sorry! I-I didn't mean to--!" When he looked up at who he bumped into, he realized it was a familiar face. "S-Star??"

It came as a most unwelcome surprise when Cieko's brother Taipico pulled him from his room, all exited about how he arranged for the two of them to visit the annual Halloween celebration at the haunted woods. Normally they would stay in Meridell and scare the trick or treaters that came to their house. He even arranged costumes for them, dressing as Kanrik himself and had Cieko dress as Hanso.

But of course whenever the older brother arranged something it would go according to his will, Cieko dared not complain for what his parents might say. In their eyes Taipico could never do anything wrong, for he was all about goodwill, kindness and charm. Against his will the younger brother had to tag along to the haunted woods for the silly celebration.

Taipico was just jolly about the whole ordeal and figured Cieko was just being stubborn and introvert as usual, but was positive the two of them would just have a grand ol' time. "Always wondered how a ponytail would look on you, it might suit you even better than me, you should grow it out"

Ceiko couldn't be more annoyed, why was he stuck with the itchy wig anyway while his brother got the cooler more spooky outfit. His ears were almost constantly tilting backwards and he had a discontent look on his face the entire time, though, that was an expression not at all unfamiliar to the aisha. "Never."

Taipico patted Cieko on the shoulder "It's your choice" and smiled with charm. "Being here with you is enough for me, I'm just glad we get to spend some quality time together"

Cieko felt like he was going to puke. He couldn't stand his brother, how perfect he always was and how impeccably kind. He would always be in his shadow, and wanted nothing more than to take his spot in the limelight and be the admired perfect son. He couldn't help but exclaim a sarcastic "hooray"

"We're going to have so much fun, I'm going to make sure of it!"

Cieko rolled his eyes "I bet..."
I will not allow you the satisfaction of achieving your stupid plans brother, I will continue loathing this day if it's the last thing I do.

Toffee smiled to herself as she looked around the Haunted Woods, her tail flicking under her as she sat in a high branch among the trees. The korbat had traveled all over the world and back again for a second helping, but she always loved to return back to these parts. These was where she first grew up after all. That meant she wasn't scared of the woods at all, in fact loving the idea of old thrills. And what better way to spend Halloween? It was seriously her favorite holiday of the entire year! Scares and candy and costumes... and there's always the chance for a real spine-tingling story around every corner. Oh yeah, now that would be a real treat. She didn't really need to get a costume for the festival, since her signature hat and jacket should probably be enough. Duke the calabat was perched besides her, watching the blimp circling overhead. "Don't go to Neovia? Ha!" Toffee nearly laughed her head off at the warnings from above. Neovia was common ground for the girl, so what could there possibly be to scare her? "Time to have some fun." She rubbed her hands together and jumping to the ground to see if she could find something interesting.

   When Oraliean suggested going to the Haunted Woods for Halloween, he never imagined Susanna getting so excited, she even planned their costumes, a peanut butter princess and a jam knight. The fact that she was willing to wear a dress and be a princess was shocking to him, she complained about both most of the time. She dragged the Darigan to the deserted fairground wobbling and stumbling in her heels with her tail wagging happily. 
"Susanna, dear, if you're having trouble walking you can lean on me." he offered with a worried smile.
"No, I'll be fine and we're almost there!" Susanna rushed "The deserted fairground is my favourite part of the haunted woods, I want a chance to play all the games. " 

Oraliean gave the other lupe's arm a little tug as a last attempt to get her closer, but she still walked in front of him wobbling and bumping into people each time followed by a sort apology from Oraliean.

"So your name's B. That's a cute name." Lora said. "I'm afraid your companion is right however. I'm not a real vampire. This is just a costume." She then paused and looked up at the silhouette of Hubrid Nox's castle in the distance. "I hear that they now give tours of that castle. It seems so strange. We all know that Nox wasn't a nice person but without him things seem... Different." She then suddenly spun around. "Sorry about that, I have't introduced myself yet. My name is Lora."

“What do you want to do first little brother?” Taipico wrapped his arm around his little brother, but he was quick to lift that arm off him again.

“Nothing.”

The older brother grinned “I know what this is about… You’re scared!” He pointed at him as if he caught a candy stealing child in the act, and then sincerely tried reassuring him “But don’t worry Cieko, nothing the guy in the air balloon is saying is true, you’re perfectly safe enjoying the festivities”

That was it! Cieko had been quietly moping to himself for all this time, but could no longer contain the pent up frustration had built up since the trip started. “I’m 16, I’m not a little kid anymore! You always do that, belittle me! You even got me a costume for crying out loud” He lifted his own jacket with a frown on his face “I don’t want to wear this”

“Of course you don’t, you haven’t dressed up on Halloween since you were 10 years old. Besides stupid would be my first idea, to dress as our petpets, then I’d be the scary one and you the cute and little- but that’s beside the point. Dressing up is fun! And even if you disagree, think of all the cool pictures we’ll make to show our family, bear with it for them won’t you?”

The striped aisha looked like he was going to explode any moment, and then regained grip on his anger. Exploding would simply be too convenient for Taipico, after all, it would make him the glorious older brother with the good heart, and himself the younger brother who ruined the good intentions of his brother.

Suddenly it hit him, how he could turn this disdainful situation around! All he had to do was get Taipico to be the one who ruins their brotherly time together. But how… That high horse royal boy was made of pure jolliness and good intent, getting him to do something bad would be tricky.
As he concocted a plan he allowed his brother to take him all sorts of places.

Wow, it hasn't even been a few minutes and Toffee's ears were already swinging around like radar with the activity around her. She couldn't make out a lot of actual words yet, but she did catch someone shouting, a few screeches of terror and the rest was just fuzz. Well, everyone did have their own way of enjoying themselves. Now all she had to do was find out what she wanted to do first.

"Let's see." She started to say, even if she was only really talking to herself. "There's the Fairgrounds, Neovia, and the gypsy camp." At the mention of the word 'gypsy' she could hear Duke whimpering on her shoulder. He didn't really enjoy all of that black magic, or any excitement for that matter. And yet he was stuck with Toffee as an owner. "Oh come on Duke. It'll be fine. I know this place like the back of my wing." It was a true statement. Every tree, rock, and possible spot for a haunting ghoul this korbat knew perfectly thanks to her special memory.

After enough debating to herself, she finally decided to check out the always promising Fairgrounds. "Might as well start the night out with something simple." She shrugged, changing her route and moving towards where she remembered the rides. They were always a treat to play and compete in. And if a ride just so happens to break.... bonus!
